Inexpensive HVAC upgrade improves air quality

I’m so glad that I paid attention to my body.

  • Normally, I tend to just keep on plowing ahead with life even when I feel bad.

That’s something I’ve really got to stop doing now that I’m getting older. Along with being less sedentary and getting out of the central air conditioning for more fresh air, I wanted good air quality inside as well. I learned a bit about indoor air quality during the pandemic but never really did anything about it at the time. It was all I could do to maintain my sanity while I was all cooped up working from home instead of the zone controlled HVAC of the office. But a recent cold really changed things for me. I’m good for getting some sort of cold virus every other year or so. But this fall, I caught a cold that I just couldn’t seem to get rid of. After 3 or 4 days, I felt much better but I just couldn’t get rid of a nagging cough. So I plowed ahead for a bit longer before finally going to see the doctor. I was surprised that I didn’t just get a prescription but instead got a suggestion for better indoor air quality. My doctor suggested that I first call the HVAC company to get ductwork cleaning and ductwork resealing. Once these HVAC services were complete, my doctor suggested that I replace my old air filters for the HVAC with a HEPA filter. The HEPA filter actually removes more than 99 percent of all airborne contaminants. I did just what she suggested and not only did my respiratory symptoms fall away, the indoor air quality in our home has drastically improved. All it took was a few extra dollars spent on a HEPA filter.
