I never realized how amazing it was to have a dad who was a professional HVAC technician until I was old enough to buy my own home. My older brother even went to school to become a certified HVAC technician like my dad, but it didn’t hit me how great this would be until now. I had a general understanding about what the two of them did, and I respected it. However, once I bought my first home and realized that the HVAC system didn’t take care of itself, I understood how important my dad and brother were to not only me, but all homeowners. I was living in my new house for 3 months before the season transitioned from summer to fall, which meant I had to switch between my air conditioner and my furnace. I casually mentioned this AC and heat transition in front of my dad and brother, and they quickly advised me to hold off until one of them could service my HVAC system. I thought they were joking, because it was just a simple button on my thermostat to make the switch. They explained everything that could go wrong with my HVAC equipment if I didn’t have it serviced. Once they were done explaining the severity of having my HVAC system twice per year, they explained how expensive the consequences were. After hearing what they had to say, I was thankful to have the two of them in my life, because I know I’d never actually pay someone to service my HVAC equipment twice per year.
