SPT SF-608R Portable Evaporative Air Cooler Review
The SPT SF-608R is not an air conditioner, but rather an air cooler which makes it more energy efficient and better used in dry conditions, rather than humid ones. It works by blowing the cool air off of the water and ice cubes that can be loaded inside into the room that the air cooler is placed into. This makes it good for cooling and dehumidifying, but not for chilling a room. It also makes this machine more energy efficient since the machine is only blowing air, not cooling or heating it and more portable since it’s not full of machinery. However, if you’re looking for something that will chill your room, look elsewhere.
Air Conditioner with Neat Features
The SPT SF-608R has some neat features which makes it better than an air conditioner in certain conditions. It works very well at cooling the air using evaporating water which makes it more energy efficient than other air conditioners. It is very portable and lightweight and doesn’t have to be put in a window; in fact, it does best by being as close as possible to the people it’s cooling. Since it isn’t full of gimmicks, it’s cheaper and takes less energy to power.
Handles Hot and Dry Areas
On the other hand, this is only a cooling unit, not an air conditioner and it will only work in fairly specific circumstances. It won’t make a room cold, nor will it make a room moist, but rather, it will cool the air and dehumidify it and only in a certain area. If you are looking for something to turn your room into an iceberg, look elsewhere. Too, this unit can be a bit noisy and it has to be cleaned once in a while. However, if you want something to handle a hot, dry area, then this is a good unit to consider.

As the air flows through the wick, some of the water evaporates into the air, consuming the heat that was in the air. An air stream is then blown out the front of the unit and is considerably cooler than the current room temperature! This is not an air conditioner and therefore uses much less energy. The unit works well in dry climates; not very effective in areas with high humidity as the unit utilizes water to cool.
